The Reds are said to be “all over” Dallas Keuchel. Apparently, Cincinnati believes that he is fit for a small ballpark such as Great America.
Of course they have to get Keuchel to feel that way. The word is, he wouldn’t mind the big stage, never mind the big ballpark, making New York or L.A. a potentially more desirable spot for him.
Agent Scott Boras is touting Keuchel as “another (Tom) Glavine.” Keuchel is a smart, soft throwing lefty who has come up big in October, so there are some similarities, which make him attractive to just about any team in need of a starting pitcher.
Generally, it is hard to get free agent pitchers to come to pitch at Great America, but the Reds seem to have some funds this year, and they are said to love Keuchel.
They have talked to J.A Happ, as well, and perhaps even Patrick Corbin, though he’s the first choice of a few big market teams like the Yankees and Phillies, so that would seem to be a long shot. The Reds also would love to bring back Matt Harvey, who exceeded their expectations in terms of work habits and being a good teammate, and also pitched well for them.
