Crystal Palace fans were on Cloud Nine on Deadline Day after learning that they had picked up Michy Batshuayi on a half-year loan spell. The 25-year-old will be available as soon as this weekend, which should prove to be a significant boost to a Palace team that certainly needs it.
Batsman's road to Selhurst Park has been a long one. The Belgian International is currently on Chelsea's payroll but just like with many other young players past and present, he's been on a neverending merry-go-round of loans. Since January 2018, he's played half seasons for Borussia Dortmund and Valencia prior to making the move back to the Premier League.
While known as a steady scorer, Batshuayi had not been producing too well in La Liga so far this year. In 23 matches with Los Che, he only scored three times. That is a significant decrease from his stellar spell in Germany when he scored nine times in 14 matches.
The newest Eagle told CPFC's website that he is "very happy to be back in London and the Premier League." He added that he is "hungry for game time and goals." The delight over this signing was echoed by team chairman Steve Parish who told the press that "This is a fantastic signing for Crystal Palace. Michy is a player we've long admired, and I'm delighted that we've finally managed to get him in a red and blue shirt."
Crystal Palace currently sit 15th in the Premier League. That's mainly because they have only been able to score 24 goals all season, which is fourth to last in the entire league. While Luka Milivojevic and Andros Townsend have certainly been pulling their weight so far, team talisman Wilfried Zaha hasn't been producing nearly enough for how much he is being relied upon. Hopefully, with the addition of Batshuayi, it will take some pressure off the Ivorian and fans can see a resurgence like they did late last year.
