We have targeted two running back props for Week 1. Both players are transitioning to new teams, and this is our one hesitation, but we're getting low numbers with a lot of matchup value.
Joe Mixon Over 53.5 Rushing Yards
Joe Mixon is coming off a great season with the Bengals. Mixon helped the offense stay productive when Burrow suffered his season ending surgery.
Mixon racked up 1,034 yards on 257 carries last season. He was consistently facing a loaded box, but was still top ten in each of these categories.
The running back was traded to the Texans in the offseason, and received a massive extension. Houston didn't emphasize the run last season, but they should now with their new star.
The Texans open with the Colts, and this is a great matchup to run the ball. Indianapolis was bad against the run, ranking 27th in Defensive Rusher Rating. They also allowed the 22nd most yards in the NFL.
In one game against the Colts last season, he carried the ball 21 times for 79 yards in a 34-14 win.
Aaron Jones Over 53.5 Rushing Yards
Aaron Jones is staying in the NFC North, but he is now with the Vikings. Minnesota should be very good for the running back because they play on turf, and they also don't have a reliable quarterback.
Sam Darnold will start at quarterback for the Vikings, and he should have a good season. However, Minnesota can't put too much pressure on him because he hasn't been successful in the NFL.
The way to take pressure off Darnold is by running the football with Jones. Minnesota will open with the Giants in the Meadowlands, and New York is bad against the run.
The Giants ranked 30th in Defensive Rusher Rating and 30th in Total Team Yards Allowed. They were also 21st in Bendability, so they allowed explosive plays. Jones total is low at 53.5 considering this is their matchup is so light.
