It's officially the home stretch of the NFL season as bye weeks conclude this week and teams get ready for their playoff push. Let's see who's been playing well (or not) in recent weeks.
The top six teams on the Quality Stats Power Rankings held steady this week. The order remains Philadelphia, Dallas, Buffalo, San Francisco, Cincinnati, and Kansas City. All of them won and covered, besides Kansas City (who lost to Cincy). These teams are clearly ahead of the pack, and one of them will likely be hoisting a Lombardi in February.
The middle, meanwhile, remains much more fluid, and the Lions are quickly rising. They moved up seven spots this week and welcomed first-round pick, Jameson Williams, into the fold. While the rookie played just eight snaps, he should be integrated more as the season progresses. A playoff spot is unlikely, but the Lions should be a chippy spoiler team down the stretch. It starts against the Vikings this week.
The Eagles' signal-caller is now leading the league in Real Quarterback Rating, and his team has the league's best record. Hurts just finds the end zone, through the air, and on the ground. He may not be as flashy as Patrick Mahomes, but is efficient, and if the Eagles keep winning, this MVP race may end up being a barnburner.
Despite having to play with Brock Purdy, the Niners got a massive win against Miami, and "Mr. Irrelevant" did not look terrible. Kyle Shanahan is a quarterback wizard and should help Purdy get comfortable. Throw in a strong ground game and an elite defense, and the Niners are not done yet. They are deserving favorites over the Bucs this week. After all, they actually moved up a spot on the Intelligence Index this week, even with Purdy under center.
Playing his first game in 700 days, Watson was not at his best. While the Browns won, their team stats fell two spots to 19th in Real Quarterback Rating despite a cupcake matchup against the Texans. Watson held the ball too long and just generally looked uncomfortable all day. He should get better, but the Browns did not take a media firestorm to get mediocre quarterback play. Keep an eye on this situation.
